Check out the stickies at the top. There's some good info that I just found. Maybe you could dig on it too.

Don't make me start rapping, yo.
Re: Nik from Ceriatone talks about their components.
Nik is a wonderful guy and yeah the 14 yr old cork sniffer line is very very funny. The one thing about forums is you get a lot of people who run thier mouth and have no clue. For example I remember someone saying that solen caps stink etc and I used it in 5e3 build and they were wonderful. Also I believe Carr uses them in there amps. I only respect opinions or take them to heart when someone says hey I used them and I did not like or that they failed. More so the later because there are so many variables. The one sting I never believed and I proven wrong was regarding sozo and break in period.... They did change for the way better after break in but I did not go post they suck without giving some time to asses my build and give the amp some time to breath sort of like wine......

Rule number one form your own opinions regarding components especially caps.

Or create drama. Seriously feel bad for the guy. People spreading garbage can take you out of business in a second. I notice that owners are happy, and the BS is started by people who "heard from a friend"..
Drama should be punishable by severe beatings.. public beatings.
I like to use old caps because it's like hotrod cars that way, but I am not afraid to use whatever has the right value on it up until I decide something isn't for me. I like traditions. They got that way for a reason, that's all there is to that end.

Is Ceriatone really a multi-million dollar business? I would find that very hard to believe based on nothing but simple calculations.THat guy has a multi million dollar buis...

ceriatone kit question
Greetings all,
So this is probably a question I should ask Nik, but I think I'd like to ask one of you good folk who have actually ordered and assembled a Ceriatone kit.
I am considering a TW Express kit. When I read the descriptions of the express kits ..( well, "Expression" kits), here: http://www.ceriatone.com/productSubPage ... onKits.htm
..I see only "fully assembled board", in the options.
So if I read that correctly, there is no option to order simply a "box of parts". Is that correct? While I have no doubt Nik and crew can do a far superior job of soldering and assembly than I can, I would actually prefer to do the soldering and such.
Am I reading that right? Will they ship the kits without assembling the boards if you contact them and ask for that?
Am I asking a dumb question, ie; they do a great job of component assembly so why mess with that?
The Princeton Reverb kit from Weber that I assembled successfully sounds great - and I am really pleased with the fact that I soldered everything together and it still worked. I had to solve some (arguably minor) assembly issues, resolve some parts issues, and work around kit design flaws. But in the end I am really proud of it.
I guess I am concerned that the Ceriatone kit is so "complete" that I wont feel quite as pleased with myself when I "assemble" it. Does that make sense? Am I being an arrogant narcissist for even asking that?
Or, should I just get a chassis from Nik and maybe source the rest of it from some of the many resourcess available here in the forum?
Thanks for your patience and restraint.
Regards,
Matt Powell

Re: Nik from Ceriatone talks about their components.
Due to so many problems with people building the kits Ceriatone decided to sell assembled boards but you can ask for a change in the caps, email them.

It depends on how far you're willing to go and how much you want to spend.powmat wrote:Greetings all,

All up, my amp cost about $1500 to build including the cherry cab.
My original plan was to source most parts from 1 source and replace the more critical parts so I ordered the kit from Nik with the fully assembled board, there is still plenty to do even with the head start on that. The ceriatone kit is of very good quality and the assembly & soldering is top notch.
I ended up replacing the caps on the board with the orange mallory PVC caps, replacing the filter caps, jacks with the vintage switchcraft types. Ordered Heyboer trannies instead of ordering Nik's.
I emailed Nik about replacing some of his parts and if it was worth it, he was very open & honest and said that using the mallorys would result in making the amp sound chunkier and fuller.
I highly recommend his kit as a good starting point and you can always swap parts out if you're not happy as I have done.
Nik
I got to say that he has to be a very smart fellah to do what he is doing.A lot of obstacles working against him and he has done really well.Go Nik!!!
Thanks for the article that was cool.Mikey
