Is there a 2X EL84 output trainwreck schematic?

Post by RJ Guitars »

Hello All - I am looking to build an EL-84 output amp using two EL84's rather than four like in the Liverpool... has any done this or is there another trainwreck model that I could follow?

Thanks - RJ

Check the 18 Watt Forum for the "T-Rex". It's a Wreck preamp into a Marshall 18 watt power amp. :)

There was a 4xEL84 named Ginger that had a half power switch.

See also TubeDogSmith's gorgeous build of a Rocket in http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=199. There are some notes in that thread regarding cathode bias values for a 1/2 power Rocket.

Bottom line is that you can go with smaller iron if you like or build with the larger iron and modify the cathode resistors to suit the single pair of output tubes. You could dink with the power supply to mimic the sag of a full up Rocket but I doubt you will get that loud anyhow.

Liverpool or Rocket? - that is a whole 'nother thread. Rocket is closer to a Vox AC30 in its topology.

Cool guys, thank you.... I like the simplicity of that Rocket... The various pieces are starting to come together for me. I appreciate your patience and guidance.

hi, first post on this forum. i believe there are a couple of 2X EL84 designs in the well-circulated wreckxpr.pdf file - these aren't liverpool designs thoug, they're blues express versions. hope this helps - i'm pretty much of a noob, but think that this forum would be a great place to learn more about tube amps and wrecks in particular.

i'm presonally thinking of "wrecking" valve junior. if it works out, i will share that experience here... regards, aditya

Here are two different builds by Dartanion and myself. Just use the Liverpool schematic, leave off two tubes and you can read about the rest here

2xEL84 rocket

Hi there, I'm gonna try a 2XEL84 Rocket next but probably in a small combo format, what kind of transformers should I use for an output of say 15W?

Cheers,

Paul.
