Anyone have a master volume in their 'Wreck?

Post by Gamble »

Hey guys,

I'm new to the board and have been wanting to build for a long time. I'm almost ready to give it a go but I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has built a Express or any other with a master volume?

Lots of folks here have added a PPIMV to their TW's, myself included. You'll reduce the negative feedback and lose the presence control effect as the MV is turned down, but it doesn't seem to be much of a problem.

Welcome to the fun Gamble!

Use the forum search feature with "Lar-mar" or "type II" in the Trainwreck specific board and you will find lots of information

I used a Hall Variable Voltage Regulator (or...VVR) in my Express build so I can't comment directly on the use of a MV in that plan.

Cheers,
Dave O.

I definitely like the VVR (full scaling) in my two Rocket builds.
I build and repair tube amps. http://amps.monkeymatic.com

I installed LarMar and love it in my Richie built express. Also, did a wet/dry rig audit sounds awesome...

I've have built some with a VVR, and some with a MV. Heres an Express I finished the other day with a MV. And it also has the bias pot and test jacks, so it makes it easy to change tubes and bias the amp without taking the chassi out and removing the bottom cover to get to the bias adjustment pot.

The other pic is a Big bottle Rocket, with the VVR cathode biased EL34s :D

The VVR control is by the standby and power switch.

PPIMV in both my Expresses. Gets a little thin at bedroom levels but whatcha gonna do...even my 6V6 one is blisteringly loud. Think ill try VVR in next one.

I use a ppimv in my JCM800 build, and Hall VVR in my Liverpool an Express builds because that seems much more approprate to their style of circuit that is meant to have power tube clipping.

I love how VVR helps me so much... I absolutely depend on it.
But now I'm tempted to also get a Badcat Unleash that I could just use with any of my amps... As soon as I can save the $370!

I put a ppimv in Rawnster's rocket. I love it. Mainly as I can use it to dial in power tube compression by cranking it up.

i'm thinking of throwing a pre or post phase inverter in my TW. Im trying to decide which. the pre off of the treble ive had success with every amp i put in n love it, but wonder if this is an issue with this application do to power section breakup. post PI has been hit n miss. my 4210 i have, sounds n works great in. on a 1959 i have, sounds like crap imho!!

any advice?? right now using attenuator, but want to do away with it n add a master.

thanks in advance.

I've put in different types of master volume including the plexi tone stack and master volume in my Reverb Rocket.

The Lar-Mar works very nice.
