Jan Marie

Post by zendragon63 »

I don't post here very often because I am not in the same league as you pros (though I have learned a lot by just reading past and present posts); RJ suggested that I post a couple pics of recent builds that I thought turned out fairly well. I got the PTs from RJ.

These are not wreck clones proper but utilize similar topology. Jan Marie (and Mike's Magician) are 2x ECL82 and run about 10 watts. I usually use a 12AY7 in the preamp to tone it down some but it still has much of the desirable traits--and are a gas to play. Loud but can be powered down. I have found that the ECL82 is a great little tube with a surprisingly big sound. A GZ34 rectifier for one and SS for the other; other than that they are identical. Attached is a schematic.

Jan Marie cab is paduk and maple and Mike's Magician is wormy maple.

And Jan Marie is my bride. :D

No response is necessary; just wanted to show another spin on a wheel reinvented. Regards.

Very nice build and interesting tube choice. I am always very interested in the use of these uncommon tubes. Would love to hear some sound clips if you get a chance. Thank you very much.

Wormy maple? That's Ambrosia maple. This is not a species of maple, rather any type of maple that has been infested with the Ambrosia beetle.

Nice work though. Have any clips?

Wow--thanks for the comments guys. I freely admit I have lifted a lot of knowledge from you all to be able to build 'wreck' styled circuits with mostly success--so for this, I am sincerely grateful. This is about all I am competent to contribute to the cause at this point.

(All I do know is that the wood came out of the bin marked "Wormy Maple". Probably a generic term for 'maple violated by various beetles and worms'. :))

I don't have sound clips because my Studio One software quit working but I will see if I can get something going. Regards.
