He is an interesting guy, nuff said, but he told me - after checking with his 'people' - that Pacific was not interested in cloning this OT. Frankly, I think it is rather interesting the MM is taking this on. Certainly MM has all the variety in trannys that one could imagine. I would be curious to hear the results, RJ.

Redshark, um, don't say the Mallory PVC caps are not available because I do have sets for sale. Just saying.
When I say available, I mean going to any electronic store online and buy them anytime and not as an obsolete part for sale on ebay or here.

Understood, redshark.

So, RJ, how is the OT coming along?

I talked with them last week and they are going along nicely... still about three weeks out before I have any units in my possession. I ordered a dozen of them as a first effort... quite excited to give them a test run.

MM is really interested in staying connected to the amp building world, especially the DIY crowd. Granted the Trainwreck builders make up a very small part of that but MM is already making a great set of TW trannies, this adds a legitimate offering to the traditional TW crowd, and... it turns out that a lot of the interest that has been indicated for these transformers is from builders that want to use them in something other than a Wreck style build. I've just started talking to them about a matching Stancor based PT to go with this... should be awesome stuff!

I've also just scored a nice stash of Mallory TC-78 filter caps... enough to share in fact. We may have some great replica opportunities ahead as well as great parts for those that tend to color outside the lines in the TW build community.

I talked with Patrick at Mercury Mag yesterday and he thinks they will have the prototype A-3801 clone done before the end of next week. He will send that out for approval as soon as it is done.

For those that want to build the authentic clone, I was lucky enough to find more PVC601 caps and will be able to pass those along in addition to the Mallory TC caps.

As an extension of this attempt to gather up authentic parts I've also commisioned the local machine shop to create some original specification Bud Box chassis'. I have one here for them to work with... after years of making premium chassis the sheet metal guy was not all that thrilled with this request. Geetarpicker believes it's part of the magic... I dunno but I'll do it once just to have the verification either way for myself. I will heretofore refer to these by their shop name.as the "Cheesy chassis".

Finally, Mercury is starting work on an original spec PT for me at this time.

Do we have specs on weather stripping and dowels? There may be some real reasons for those parts regarding damping the vibration in the chassis at playing volumes.

Good to know there will be more options.
I used Mercury for the first time a while back and I have to say the amp sounds very good .Not sure if it was the transformers or circuit or what but I like it. :)

RJ I hope the specs of the PT are according to the specs of the Stancor P-8378 cause then that will be a PT that can be used with rocket, express or Liverpool!! including the recto 5v tap.

Yes that Stancor has dual HT secondary and would work well.

One thing I do not find when thumbing through the Stancor transformer book is a PT that does not have a 5v filament winding except for vary low mA rating PT's.
