Re: Express Cut Control ala Vox
It's only out of the circuit altogether if you open the path from one grid to the other. In practice that might well produce a loud pop, so maybe wire in a large resistance like 1M, and use the switch to short it out. My Express has a cut control, but I've never A/B'd it in and out.

Surfed around, if anyone's ever lifted one side of the cut on their Vox or Vox-a-likes, even for kicks, they never posted about it. Whenever I get this Rocket out of the hanger I'll give it a try, if it's notably good I've got a 250k switched for it, or maybe one of these that someone, somewhere mentioned. That little detent at the end into wide open might be a cute little feature.

I can't say what I did was "most right" but I switched it OUT (open) so I could assess whether the caps were making any difference even with the pot all the way up. For me it was worthwhile because it certainly does make a difference.
I have polystyrene on my "to do" list for that also....so I don't know, yet. Please do share if you try out both types.

Be sure your tinfoil hat has a good low impedance ground.

My 18 Watt has a switched Vox style cut control. Doesn't seem to pop when switched on or off.

Re: Express Cut Control ala Vox
I may try this just to see how much it changes going from 250K to infinity. It's mostly curiosity since I tend to add a little cut in almost all cases to knock down the brightness just a bit. I would implement it using a switchable pot so I can avoid any additional holes.

Re: Express Cut Control ala Vox
In my two Express combo amps I used cut control instead of presence circuit but I did not put in a switch for the treble cut function so I can't comment on that.
