Hogy is nothing but a lowly troll these days...What a sad end.

And about threatening? tell that to Komboking! It takes a special kind of guy to threaten a welder who's caring for his wife sick with cancer about making some empty boxes for some DIYer's who want to get together on a build.

Without Ken to give him credibility he is reduced to an internet troll that sells pretty, hazardous, boxes for exorbitant prices. He must be really desperate for money to be hacking around here.

Maybe as a show of good will, we can review his whole portfolio of amps and fix them for him.

Whaddya say there ole' pal?

I guess you think it's ok to have close to 300 volts on a 28v rated switch.

Interesting point.

Let me ask you this, on those Komet and Trainwreck ripoff amps you make and sell, what do you use for a Standby switch?

Could we consider an alternative take on this thread?

And that about sums it up,

Hogy
What would be an appropriate royalty for a builder to provide to the Fischer family for a "tribute" amplifier? What percentage of your profits do you pay?

Aren't we talking about the fast-slow switch?
Most people stall out when fixing a mistake that they've made. Why?

The Fast/Gradual switch and the Standby switch have something in common.

I used a Mountain SPDT 250v switch for the fast/gradual.

Mountain DPST 6A/125VAC; 3A/250VAC for standby and power switch.

What's the DC rating of that switch? What B+ voltage are you switching with it?

478vdc

Electrical Specifications:
• Rating: 6A/125VAC; 3A/250VAC
• Contact Resistance: 50mΩ Max.
• Insulation Resistance: 500VDC 100MΩ Min.
• Dielectric Strength: 1500VAC for 1 Minute

I don't see a DC rating, just DC insulation resistance, which is, of course, a different thing entirely.

FWIW, the NKK S332, which is much heavier duty (15A) has a DC rating of 30V. I doubt the Mountain switch is rated even that.

Oh please.
My switch is bigger than your switch?
Seriously?

You're not understanding any of this.

The point is, the DC rating of commonly used switches is very low. Yet, every amp manufacturer in history has used them as standby switches to switch B+ (DC) well in excess of 10 or 15 times their rating.

If a 125V/15A NKK switch is rated at 30VDC, what do you think a 6A Mountain switch is rated at? or a 2A Carling switch as used by Fender for decades? Yet somehow they held up.

Not taking sides but Hogy is right here, this has been a common issue across the board for years. Although in my opinion its not as big as an issue as people think, a lot of amps have survived for years without having a Standby Switch replaced and I suspect the Komets will survive for years without having the Fast/Gradual Switch replaced.

Like I said, not taking sides, just pointing something out.
