Alternatives to the cap stack.

Post by LeftyStrat »

I did the traditional hot glue cap stack in an Express and have decided I don't want to do it in the Rocket I'm building. I tried to search for alternatives. Any suggestions or links to threads would be appreciated.

Im by no means an expery in this stuff, im still learning. But you can go with cap cans, they seem less dangerous/more serviceable to me.
Just a suggestion.

Alternatively if you don't want to deal with adding the holes you can just build the cap stack but using terminal trips. Nice and easy to solder and desolder and no gluey mess.

I think RJ came up with some clever routing for his Roadrunner XP.

I've done many different type of cap boards rather then cap stack and I also like just using can caps.

Photos: Two are 18w Rockets, one is Express combo and Song Bird 30.

But the idea is to show many ways to skin a cat.

Here is a layout that I did a while back. I like the way the caps can be changed rather easily...

I ran this a few years back... http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13255

For my own builds I have grown to appreciate the Can Cap approach because it cleans up the wiring a bunch.

the pcb in my Express is a VVR from Dana. It wanted to mount it at a 90 degrees angle to the chasis, but I realized too late that it interfered with the PT secondaries so I rotated it to it's present position....

Thanks for all the ideas guys. Sorry if this was a repeat, I apparently didn't search well enough. If someone can find the previous thread and link the two together it may help others in the future.
