Try giving them a call. They were pretty helpful on the phone last time I spoke to them.

I spoke with them yesterday to check on the status of my own orders and mentioned that they were getting some bad press. They apologized and told me they had a major disruption of their email and online services. It required that they rebuild servers etc... they were essentially off the grid for a week and a half. This is a location out on the middle of no wheresville and it's not like living in the big city where you go downtown and pickup a new system...

Yes, maybe they could do better and put out some sort of public announcement but their phones never went down. This is literally a small mom and pop shop and they are fantastic to work with.

Give them a shot and work with them, I think you'll be impressed once you get on the other side of this.

I gave them a call. They were really nice. Talked to their head engineer for a half hr or so. They couldn't find anything wrong with the transformer. Couldn't get any hum out of it either. It makes me wonder if there is something wrong on my end. Anyways they are sending it back.

That sounds more like what I expect from them... just a little slow to respond sometimes but good people.

A few years back I sold a handful of Heyboer Power Transformers to the good folks over in Australia, a few of them turned out to be real hummers... It turns out that the sloppy fit on the hum band was the biggest part of the problem. These are copper so I'm not sure why they were rattling except they were a sloppy fit. Things got much better when I pulled the bands tighter and crimped and glued them down. Of course the problem was in Australia so it was an expensive exercise for me to send over a couple replacements even if they were free to me. In the end it was sorta worth it because Phil at Heyboer really gave me all the tricks and tools I needed to figure out what was going on and I learned a ton about the various forms of hum, buzz, and vibration. It did make me a little gun shy on sending over a brand new PT without a little shakedown test before it went out. I pulled the end bells on everyone of that batch and they all had the same problem... they were all good after that. i
I've never seen it since so I think it was a fluke.

I do recall that he said the most common issue with a real honest vibration in a tranny has to be something magnetic that is loose and dancing around. You can pull the end bells and look for it and sometimes you'll fix it by tightening the screws and or potting it, but you really shouldn't have to do this on a new tranny.

I started a thread a few years back on hum and buzz that might help sort out some of this: http://www.ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17505

The Trainwreck layout is really the worst case for tempting the transformers to have some sort of interactive magnetic coupling which can hum a tune in your speaker. If you get everything just right and the transformers are well behaved, it can work like magic... Some folks get lucky and others don't.

I used one in the last Plexi build, and I really liked that power transformer. Just didn't like the long wait to get it. :)
