Another Clip. Tried new things.

Post by leadfootdriver »

(Express) I was looking for more bite and ended up turning the Presence totally off. 'Turns out there's plenty of highend left. It seemed to get rid of the washyness in my sound. I just never tried this because the control is there, but I guess it doesn't mean you need to use it.

I also picked up some strong Chinese foil getter 12AX7's, and put one in V1 with some Baldwin Sylvania's in V2/V3. JJ EL34L's are great because they seem to hold together well.

I have an ISO cab with a Hellatone 30, and the Rivera attenuator on -20.

I have the gain cranked to 2:00. I'm getting feedback even tho it's not loud in the room. The amp is way more articulate without any Presence in the sound, and makes you get on your game. This is all new to me.

A quick cover with a few flubs just so you get the idea.

Thanks fellas. I did another quick dity from a backing track I downloaded from here.http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/ The guitar could be slightly brighter, but it still sounds articulate to me. I dig this amp. :)

Thanks mang! I have a G12M coming next week to throw into the ISO Cab, so I'll post some comparo clips between that and the G12H.

I've never owned a G12M Greenback before.. So I'm curious how it will work. I want to get a rear loaded cab for the Express as I think it will add to the tone of the amp. This will be a good test for everyone to chime in on.

Thanks for listening. I have a G12M coming on Wednesday. I'll do a comparo between that and my Hellatone 30. I'm open to some backing tracks if you have any.

Sounds awesome!

I assume your build is a straight ahead Express build?

So did you physically disconnect the presence by lifting it from the 8 ohm lead on the speaker rotary switch?

I have been replacing the presence pot for a cut control in all my Express builds for several years, don't miss the presence at all.

Awesome tones there dude. How did you have the volume set? I ask because your tone did not suffer from my pet peeve about the Express (unmodified) - too much compression. You had none of that problem. Were you set below 12 o'clock?

Hi Mark, I have been out of the loop with amp building the last year or so. Can you direct me to the link on this "cut control?"
