That looks real cool. How's she sound?
How is she an Express though?

Sounds real good, though I think I'm probably running the output a little too hot.Beerman wrote:That looks real cool. How's she sound?

I guess it's an Express because I built it from the A1 schematic. Other than a couple of slight value variations and a choke instead of the 1k/25w resistor, it's pretty much the same circuit. I just used what I had on hand.

Cool. I understand now. Nice looking work. Looks neat inside.

Re: pics of my new Express
thanks, guys. This is definitely my cleanest build yet(well, they all start out that way ), I was also going for a 70's "stereo system" look -- I think I succeeded
Re: pics of my new Express
it looks beautiful.. where did you get that chasis?
And, any clips?

Re: pics of my new Express
thanks, Guy. The chassis is a Hammond 17"x10"x3", purchased from Antique Electronics. Had it sitting around for almost a year now wondering what I was going to do with it -- didn't realize just how big it was until I got it. It dawned on me that I could leave the blue plastic on it and still drill everything out so that I wouldn't scuff it up. There still ended up being a few little 'wounds', of course, but it was treated gingerly. Before I took photos I wiped it down with a damp blue shop towel (paper, the kind you can get at Costco) and then wiped it dry with a microfiber towel like you can find at an auto parts store. There's some sort of chemical on the paper towels, probably petroleum based. I suppose it's time to build a cabinet, but I'm not a carpenter by any means. My wife is far more talented in that department. I'm actually thinking about doing it with laminated shelf boards(think: fake wood paneling), just to keep with the "70's stereo" theme
Re: pics of my new Express
that look's very nice ,did you carry it into glamour shots for the photos

I got one of them kicking around. Seemed awefully light to support the iron of a tube amp, but I think that's just my paranoia cropping up. Looks great! Lots of room for components and wires and stuff. Clean build that way.jimipage wrote:thanks, Guy. The chassis is a Hammond 17"x10"x3", purchased from Antique Electronics.

I was a little iffy about that, too. The PT is a Hammond 272FX (5lbs) and I did use washers to mount it, but I'm not sure if I'd go much heavier than that. But having that much room to work was really nice.skyboltone wrote:I got one of them kicking around. again, fellas, thanks for the compliments
Re: pics of my new Express
Ken encountered the same problem and addressed the issue with dowel supports between top and bottom - maybe yours is more authentic in that regard!

Nice job Jimi!
