Building The Rocket :)

Post by brejna »

Hi everyone, finally after few years of reading and "stealing" informations from you guys and all over the internet I started with my first amp. I chose Rocket 'cause I wanted single channel amp that could give me great tone as initial layer, which will be coloured with few pedals.
I decide to use guitarmike2107's layout, 'cause it looks great and it uses one turret board. I was thinking to add mid control, but that will wait, since I want to try how amp sounds "stock". Also I found on the layout 220k that goes from joint of treble's 220k resistor and 47n cap to the ground that was not in the original schematic, so I didn't solder it.
Here are few pics of the board..
Thanks once again for all of your help.

Cheers
Brane

I like Mike's Rocket layout too, I built a few single board versions myself using my own designs.

Enjoy your build and have fun.

Looking good!

The Rocket is a spectacular amp. They sound excellent plugging straight in, yet are very pedal-friendly as well....I tend to like amplifiers for either their clean OR overdriven tones, but the Rocket is great everywhere...for me, it gets into goosebump territory when combined with Celestion Blues and a good Rangemaster...

Thanks, I really can wait to build it.. :)

At the moment I am having trouble with selecting wire type and gauge. What do you guys use and why?

Brane,

I use so many types but I really like Topcoat it's a pretinned wire easy to work with comes in 20awg and plenty of colors. I get it from www.mojotone.com
You can use it for the entire amp including heater string.

A friend of mine pointed me towards Small Bear Electronics and their UL1015 Pre-Bonded 600v/20ga wire, my favorite so far for being tough yet easy to work with...15 cents per foot, no need to twist and tin it after stripping, and it comes in 10 different colors.

Thank you for suggestions, I've checked smallbear and shipping fee is 24$ and from mojotone is 57$ lowest fee which is too much for few meters of wire. If some one could sell me or trade me wire I need for building this amp I would appreciate it. I can offer you pedal pcbs if you are interested :)
