Pleasant Mistake on B+ voltage to V1 and V2

Post by Decko »

Hi Folks,

I accidently place a 180K resistor after the B+3 node which consequently dropped the voltage to B+4 and B+5. (Express Build)

So the plate voltages on V1 and V2 were 81, 88, and 115 VDC which is probably half of what they should be.

The result of this mistake was actually pleasing. Some of the gain and mids were removed but the overall tone seemed to have better separation with a touch of sparkle.

I switch the resistor back to 9.1K and the amp sounded good but had an added boom and bass.

That said, could one explain with a more scientific approach on what just happened as a result of reducing the HT voltages to the anodes?

Much thanks and happy holidays!
