Going to experiment a bit. Going to change the PI in my Rocket built to that of the Marshall 1974x. 820R/47k.....470k loads.....01uf on the input....1uf on the out and 8.2k for the power tube grids. Should be an interesting experience.
Also.....anybody else notice (besides me)the striking similarities between the Rocket and Matchless Lightning ?

Re: Rocket preamp with Marshall 1974 PI ?
The PI in the 18 watt I think is the main contributor to the crossover distortion we get out of those amps.
With that in mind I never carried for the 18 watt variants with extra pre amp gain.

To get rid of that famous fizz I had to increase plate voltage, remove the recto tube and run on SS plug.
Modding amp circuits from TW Rocket to Marshall will require lots of trial and error on your part, have at it but log your changes, it's easy to forget where you've been.
