New Production Polyester Caps

Post by strelok »

So I ordered some 6ps caps to try in my little 6v6 express from Antique electronic and got them yesterday. I ended up with three different types. They don't say 6ps on the page of them except in the part number and I'm wondering the more I search around the web if the 6ps line is still made anymore. The .002 I got was a CDE 6ps, .02's were SBE 6ps, and the .1's where CDE 418p's. They're all polyester film at the very least but I'm wondering what the difference is and if 6ps' are still being made. The only other place I could find them was on ebay. Mouser or Allied don't stock them, though they have the 418p's. Curious as to what peoples opinions are on the various lines of polyester orange drops being made these days as well.

Here's a nice sheet comparing the different types: http://www.vishay.com/docs/42015/intro.pdf Note that even though this is currently posted on Vishay's site, it's dated 2003, and yes 6PS are getting hard to find, out of production AFAIK. The 225P and 418P are polyester (same as the PS series through 1kV), and very similar.

Thanks that's helpful. Seems the main difference between the 225/418p's and the 6ps' aside from temperature ratings and tolerance is the former is foil and the latter is film. I wonder what the difference sonically is, if any.

All three types (225P, 418P, and 6PS) are polyester film/foil construction.

Just poor editing. The dielectric is polyester film and the plates are foil. You need both elements to make a capacitor.
