Sound differences Rocket vs Z Wreck??

Hi guys, I build Rocket a while ago and I was not happy with too much bass, so I convert it to z wreck to see if it sounds different..
Rocket preamp doesn't have 220k to the gnd that lowers overall preamp volume, so I have put 220k resistor with switch to the ground and I think there is little less bass, because preamp is not hitting PI that hard.. Only thing that I cannot test is higher volume behavior..
What do you think??

They don't call the Rocket "big bottom girl" for nothing. You can clear up the bass with smaller coupling caps. Converting wholesale to Express is not a simple deal, because, well, 4x EL84 vs 2x EL34, for starters.

Thanks for info. I will see if there is any change with changes I already did, if not I will lower coupling caps.
Also I will add reverb to it, what do you reccomend? I have seen in few threads layouts and I did schematic from them..

I was thinking about reverb driver type and tank type.. Is it ok to just use generic staff, like 3.5w transformer and also reverb types do they effect rest of circuit, so I have to be aware about choices I make with reverb types?

The first Zwrecks had lower uf rated caps for softer maybe too soft power supply rail.

Currently the caps are more in line with Rocket uf level.

Yes you can build with .047 uf coupling caps/.1uf in tone stack or .022uf caps in tone stack.


Also phase inverter coupling cap changes.


I don't use the voltage divider 220K/220K

I did notice change in the top end, like the amp is sparkling less with z wreck specs. Power supply filtering is parallel at the moment, but again all sound tests were done on low volume I will see if there is change when amp is "cranked".
