Definitely one of just a few "right" speakers. Carry on.

A 103dB speaker would be loud, too loud for an Express but good for a Rocket.

Marcus,

On that layout, the phase inverter grid leaks are shown as 220k and not the traditional 1M Voxy values. Is that really the case or a typo?

Dave,

No that's how the rocket and Z wreck are.

here's the schematic:

Hi Marcus,

I was referring to the grid leaks on the phase inverter, not the 220k/220k pair for the power tubes. The ZWreck shows 976k and the Rocket was a traditional Vox PI with 1M. I'm just wondering if that was a typo or Modulus Mike's version actually lowered the grid leaks to 220k.

More a curiosity...

Thanks for posting the circuit diagram, much appreciated.

I imagine the 220K grid leak resistors in the PI stage would have been used to lower the gain of the PI stage. Fender did this on their Silver faced amps.

Dave,

Why yes, you're correct. I now have to take my amp out of it's case and check this.....interesting....I'll report back. Good find :D

I can say that if i did build with the 220k's it works well. be interested to see what the 1M will do if not.

thanks for pointing this out, I'm going to go visit my initial build thread and see if that sheds any light.

edit: here's a gut shot. NOT 220k in there :) I thought 1M had a green band though? so a typo I'd say  I'll mention it to Mike

I wonder what type of output transformer is used in this amp?
