Rebuild Rocket

This was my very first Rocket built many years ago and never had any issues at all.

The guy that owns it said a guy he was gigging with spilled a drink inside the amp by accident!

This guy gigs Wednesday through Saturday every week so this Rocket now a combo gets a lot of abuse he said.

I got the amp cleaned and fired up but decided if this amp is going to continue life on the road I'm going to change somethings.

Tube retainers for the EL84's, different grounding, new pots had Bourns in there, new component board, new cap board, and new tube sockets.

I like it better now.

What DIDN'T you replace?!? Or are those photos of two different amps?!?

This is what I said I redid on this old amp which is the bottom two photos and the rebuild photos are the first two.

It has never had any issues until the drink spilled on the amp, combo, with air vent on top.
I got the amp cleaned up and fired up but wanted to upgrade the chassis due to this being owned by a very busy player, on the road 4 days per week and tossed around, he said.

I just feel what I did was make the amp more road worthy.

Nice work Mark, and entirely sensible. A "bear claw" on your rectifier socket and you'd be done.

I don't normally use a Rocket head chassis for my Rocket combos.

I use the channel type seen on most 18w Marshall combos, they work out better and have access to the tubes so much easier.
Plus I turn the face plate around so you can read the control panel from the front of the amp!

Hey Mark: its nice to see your first Rocket do so well. If the guy didn't spill on it, it would have been out there still doing its job.
