Dimed all knobs Trainwreck and stable?

Post by RockinRocket »

I think I read that you are supposed to be able to dime every knob to 10 turn away from the amp, play and a real Trainwreck is stable.

I'm pretty sure Glen said he had to change his 47p PI snubber to 100p to keep the amp stable but I don't remember if that was the amp dimed.

Just now saw this. Yes on my original TWs (and 2 clones I built for myself) can be fully dined without instability issues. This is with the stock PI cap value. On my ‘89 Express early on it had some stability issues, but the fix was a little piece of foam rubber under the power supply board to keep the OT primary wires tucked down tight. Oddly over the years the foam fell out but it’s not needed anymore. Perhaps I had a set of tubes that had an extra bump in the highs or the amp mellowed a little over time. Anyway, no stability issues in all my TWs. My ‘85 does have a small resistor on the input of the 2nd stage that appears stock, but my ‘89 nor my 2 clones of her have said resistors.
