Wouldn't that increase the bass response?

Just tried another 2n2 in parallel. As I expected, the bass response increased.

It might be the curve on your output tubes.

Once you get to the gain knee, the tone stack looks like nothing to an el84. It translates all input to be more coal, that's all.

Wooo! Wooo! Chugga-Chugga.

Here is a thought (and I am with you on circuit deviations so let's talk from a perspective of we agree on Chante being the baseline)

The Liverpool has too much gain to be a multi-voice amp. It flattens the output. Bulldozer. Parking lot. Billard table.

If you like that one sound you are stuck with one option. Throw tubes at it until it does one good thing.

This is my opinion.

Considering what adding a 2n2 in parallel did to the tone, I may try reducing that cap to 1nF. I'll report my findings when I get a chance to make that change.

I thought you may have been losing too much of the lower mids with all the bass cutting you were doing, that's why I asked you to put another 2.2nF in parallel, to see if it got you closer to the sound Pete was getting.

Have you got any gut shots of the amp you can share by the way?

Ledvedder,

The cathode bypass cap on your output tubes is only 25uF. It is normally 220uF (250uF is ok too). Did you intend to do that? Very nice build though.

That's what was shown in the layout I followed. What would be the difference with a 220uF?

In place of the 22uF caps?
