Looking for some ideas...

Post by v00d00blues79 »

I have a 440-0-440v PT that has a 50v bias winding and a 6.3v tap. I'm looking for some ideas to use this PT for. I also have a OT that has a primary of 5k and UL taps. Anyone have any suggestions on what i could build around this?

Thanks,

Andy

I'd build something wuth KT88's, that tranny is going to give you +/- 560VDC on the plates, a 5K primary would work for 2 KT88's, perhaps a mini major??

the tranny's are actually out of a SF Twin Reverb 135. They are huge. I'm thinking something like the KT-88 wouldn't be such a bad idea. Finding a chassis that can hold these bad boys is going to be another thing all together.

Thanks!

I think I'd stay with stainless steel, you'd have to go to like .12 Aluminum for those big suckers!!

I'm tossing around the idea right now of trying the front end of the RT66 with KT-88's in the output running UL with the voltage as close to 500v as i can get it.

doesn't look that bad... i did a CG clone not too long ago that was worse looking layout-wise, but turned out great.

Oh I'm sure it will be a fine amp, Loud and clean! I've been throwing around the idea of building a UL amp myself, but I want to do something very out of the ordinary (Which the rt66 certainly is) but I played a DR.Z RT66 the other day and it sounded very "Dead" compared to his other stuff, it was just kind of vanilla. Of course if there were one sound that suited everybody there would only be one kind of amp and we'd all have to find something else to occupy our time! I'm interested to hear how it turns out!

Very Nice!! Wonder if you'd be able to share the layout and chassis design with me?
