PTP ?

Post by jjman »

Has anyone seen a PTP/Standoff layout executed in a TW? Any taboos with such an approach? More microphonic possibilities?

You can wire anything you want PTP. Just wire the filaments first, cathode networks next, then go ahead on. Just remember that any lowlevel grid wire, or for that matter any grid wire, and the OT primarys will give you fits. I love it, but get it right the first time, because tweaking and mods are a nightmare with PTP compared to board style.

Probably a good circuit to try it with, since it is so simple. I used a bunch of standoff terminals in my liverpool. They're very handy and look much better than terminal strip.

I'd say anything like the power caps where the actual body of the component might be touching the chassis, you could use some self-adhesive felt for them to rest on, but for anything that would tend to get hot, like a cathode biasing resistor, silicone will do the trick.

yes. simplifies layout tremendously, and if you need to elevate heaters, you can get a few more volts.

I'm ignorant on Ken's designs so indulge me.
So he built his Wreck series all point to point?
No terminal strips or boards?

I'm fairly new too but all the clones and actual heads I've seen are on boards. I'm not looking to clone and I like PTP for fairly simple designs with not too may components. Plus I'm adding trem and possibly other “enhancements.” It's easier for me to conceptualize a PTP layout and seeing lastwinj’s pics has sold me on it.

I’m liking this one’s general/tube layout the most.

That blue one is helping me decide on an eventual color too!
