Iron questions

Post by Legin »

Hi everyone, I am just starting to gather things together for a Twreck Exprss build and I noticed I have a Hammond 1650G OT in my bits box, I am presuming this would be OK? I am looking at local PT options and there is a unit with 320 or 350V per side 300mA with 45V bias tap, 6.3V/6A which is similar to the PT's that Weber sells, is this too over the top? The difference in price between this and a Hammond 372JX is about $100 AUS and I am on a tight budget for this build.

I would think that the 1650G is fine for yout OT. The PT you mention could do the job but you will need to somehow lower the voltage. From what you mention and your location, I assume the Hammond is costing more!?

They go for $108 USD here, that is about $147 AUD.

A Hammond 372JX goes $258 AUS without shipping. Just mailed Nik @ Ceriatone to see what he has.

Most of the price difference is the cost to ship it to the other side of the world. You will probably get a better price from Nik. Good luck!
