liverpool amp

Post by Richie »

I just finished a liverpool yesterday..well the amp part is finished..still has my test tubes in the amp.. But these are killer amps, if you haven't built one ,or have been overlooking them.

I made a few clips of it.. very basic recording..just a mic and my PC..
Plus i just set the mic a bout the same distance i was from the cab..
really it was as far as i could get the mic cable.
so its not close mic'd.. and remember i'm not much at recording stuff.
But this still may give an example of how these amps can rock your socks off.

I may have to find a place to put the clips, and link to them.

guitar is a strat.. the cab is a marshall 4x12 with sammi 50 watters [old ones] bright switch is in the bright position

Nice playing there Richie. You've got that whole Lynch/Dokken/Gilbert shred thing hardwired. I would have never picked a Liverpool for that sound, and yet it was a perfect choice.

I don't have anything to use to record with.. so its just a mic,and the PC.
But i am learning how to get something to work. I think it was just luck.
IN the one clip, my son came in the room, and sit in front of the mic..so that is why the one clip sounded a little less high end on it.

I'll take some pics later when i get the cab and all of it finished. I might try to do more clips when i get the NOS tubes in the amp,and get the old test tubes out of it. I'll try and do more bluesy or Hendrix or rock type clips, with the LP,to show how the amp sings and has the harmonics..

Plus i can practice trying to get better clips made. As a friend of mine says..its the poor mans way. You learn to use or get by with what you have to work with.

Very nice sound and playing. This gives me a little more incentive to finish mine ! Now for the questions.

What kind of volume and tone settings?
What kind of pickups?

thats a good question.. since this was an amp i just finished, i didn't have the knobs on it yet.. so it was more by feel.. but usually about the standard setting.. vol about 2 oclock.. treble about 12 to 1,bass and mid about the same. presence between 8 to 9 oclock.. and the bright switch in the on or bright position. the strat has an HS3 in the bridge..stock fender pickups in the neck and middle.

I like the big sweep in clip 5..great chops man. You kind of have that Yngwie type sound with those settings. Sounds good.

Your chops on guitar are only rivaled by your chops as an amp builder :!:
Uncle Tom T. would be proud :D
I can't wait to see the pics. Is the Liverpool as sensitive to lead dress as the Express :?:

Yes.. its about the same. pretty much an express with EL84s.. So if one doesn't watch out, they might have a problem. But this amp is real noise free and no problems.. except its hard to stop playing once you turn it on..
I should get the cab tomorrow night.

That sounds great Richie; I am more excited than ever to get that TW Express clone you're building for me. I bet it absolutely smokes.

Oh, and nice playing too. :)
