Express #2 problems

Post by stevek66 »

My #2 Express that I built back in July has developed a problem.
When you switch the Stanby on The power tubes instanly start turning blue inside like their about to blowup and I get a loud buzz/hum coming out the speakers.Without tubes I checked voltages and I think every thing looks normal
B1-396
B2-395
B3-393
B4-393
B5-392
PT SEC-592
HEATERS-6.4
BIAS IS -33.00
I'VE GOT ABOUT 386 ON V1 PIN 1 AND 6
I checked OT CT and primarys and get about 43 ohms on V4 and 46 on V5
Any help would be appreciated,I'm at a loss,OT maybe.
The other guitar player in the band I play with was using it.He said it worked Wed and this afternoon he turned it on and this is what I got.

Thanks in advance for any help....Steve

First off, blue glow doesn't mean they're about to blow up, it's fairly common. That said your problem is most likely a bad tube. It'd start by removing the preamp tubes and powering it up. Buzz? replace the power tubes, no buzz, put the PI in, keep going backwards until you get the buzz.

Good luck.

Hey thanks,I did as you described and it was a bad preamp tube in the PI.
I had gone through and replaced tubes so I thought.I ended up pulling one JJ and Put it back in thinking it was a new one.To many tubes on the bench.
Thanks again,really....Steve
