What to use for the wooden face plate

The one that goes over the knobs and switches ... is it veneer? Seems like anything else would be too thick for mounting any hardware?

I used 1/8 solid cherry. The PEC pots are log enough. All the other parts are long enough also. You can go to a craft shop and buy precut 2" stock in various sizes and thicknesses. I got a piece of 3/32" bass wood with Cherry like Grain for another amp I'm doing for $2.00. The faceplate on my wreck is solid cherry cut from the wood used on the rest of the cab for matching grain and is 1/8 inch thick!

If you are not using PEC pots tho, it's pretty tough. Standard Alpha's dont fit with a wooden faceplate... at least mine didnt.
