Rocket Build "Maxine" cabinet ++ clips added final

Post by sst4270 »

Here's some photos of the inside my Rocket build. This thing sounds amazing. Very clean and jangly up to about 12:00 as Allyn stated. Dead quiet at idle. I'm using a set of NOS Russian military 6Pi14Pi-EB's in it, and they sound great. I haven't tried any EL84's yet to compare.

Will have pictures of the cabinet and clips next week.

Thanks all.

Great looking build :!: I like those heavy duty impedance switches.
How did you ground your filter caps? Did you group the 20's and 40's together or separately? I can see a ground wire going to the lug on the rectifier base. Is that the only one?

Grounding of Pwr supply caps

Post by sst4270 »

drhulsey,

I wired the (-) side of the 20uF caps together and grounded them to the chassis at the same point as the board ground. See grounding tabs at bottom center of photo. The 40 uF caps are tied together and grounded at the tab next to the rectifier. The other black wire(s) visible in the bottom of the photo are the inductor wires going from the standby switch to the power supply cap. It's pretty cramped obviously. Also I'm not sure if this is the "exact" way of grounding these caps, but I think it is sufficient in terms of current flow. And as I stated previously the amp is dead quiet.

I think you're exactly right. Ron Worley and I have been trying to figure out how Ken did it so that we could put it in our layout just for authenticity.
Who knows? Maybe Ken didn't always do it the same way :?
Thanks for the info :D

Nice build and Nice cab...Everyone always overlooks Ash.It's a great looking wood and easy to work with.
I like those handles as well.Been thinking about them for mine.Antique electronics has got them in a bunch of colors.I,ve used thier black one's on a couple of speaker cabs.
Nice build man.
