250k audio pot RV4NAYSD254C
25k Linear pot RV4LAYSD253A
5k Linear pot RV4LAYSD502A
Steve, I ordered the 1M Audio PEC's, but they had funky shafts on the Linear pots. I'll have to surf around for the 25K & 5K linear pots.
Thanks

Digikey does have the PEC pots but they use a different part number. For example, the 1M is listed as KA1051S28-ND.

No offense intended. No experience with those parts either.
Not to wax philosophical in too egregious a fashion; since we are all biased, the question remains, which is the best bias proven by the facts and are you willing to change your bias in the face of your error? Some biases are a matter of taste, and as such, are not subject to fact, necessarily. (hows that for ambiguous?)

In another forum I asked if roller rockers on a 300 six would gain any improvement on economy and performance. One of the replies stated it was like wetting your pants in a dark suit. While making you feel warm... nobody would notice.

No offense taken since I'm collecting facts on a subject I am a novice at. I want to create the best product I can with my limited resources, with an emphasis on objective fact, while understanding you get what you pay for and then deciding how those facts fit my tastes.

Here is a clip I think best represents our first amp project, P1ex, that my 13 year old son built PTP. I had a multi bias switch so I could A/B different tubes. (hard on OT when you forget to set correctly) This clip is with 6v6. First half is a American Deluxe Strat on rhythm and lead. The second half is an LP with Super Distortion Dimarzio. The lyrics fit the quote.... anyway.

Now if you've made it this far and are not completely bored out of your skull, thanks on all your advice here. It’s much appreciated.

Dennis

I missed the hippy movement back in the 60's too young but that song makes we want to get the movement going all over again. :)

Thanks for the song and welcome. Carbon film

look at the pec website.

the coding is actually pretty simple now...

way simpler then it used to be...allen bradley codes used to just be random numbers.

It goes RV4N

The letters in between are codes for shaft length/shaft type etc.

The last 3 digits and the letter is the taper and value.

first 2 digits followed by the number of zeros in the last digit.

So 500k would be a 504.

Tapers are A/B linear and C/D log.

AES and westlabs sells them new.

Steve should have a ton of NOS ones though from different makers.

Link in my post from 3 years ago in this thread is kaput, so here's the new PEC one:

It's actually a milspec numbering system mandated by DoD.

HIGHLY recommend TDSS for the PECs. Bought from them numerous times, and they always have had the best prices. $10 for RV4 milspecs: http://www.tedss.com/specSearch.asp?cat=Potentiometers

I think the pots are a component you dont want to skimp on.If you can ward off scratchiness and get a smooth transition in you dialing that goes along way.I have made it a habit now in all my builds. In older amps that need repair one thing is always there, scratchy pots.I like the sealed ones. Thanks guys for all the venders you listed,Mikey
