I did some playing a while back attempting to making a switchable Champ 5E1/SE TW (6V6). My goal was to add a second tube to function as V1B and V2 in a LP/EX preamp. Also, I was going to omit the tone stack.
The original champ V1 would be split between V1A and V2B. I tried to leave the power tube stock.
Iron is stock.
The goal would was to have a stock champ (which I like) and a small SE express (which I also like).
To make a long story short, this didn't work too well as the TW pre had way too much gain/output going into the 6V6.
I tried (among other things) pots on both sides of the 2nd and 3rd stages.
I've abandoned the project for a while.
Has anybody had any success doing anything like this?
