Dusting Off Old VHS and Converting to DVD Clips

Post by wreckboy »

Aloha, just went through some old VHS tapes of live performances that I'm converting to DVD. Thought you guys might be interested.

Sitting in with friends of mine...playing a funky version of "All Blues"
PRS Custom 24 Duncan Pickups, Trainwreck Express, Airbrake, Carvin Cab with Greenbacks(cab was new and speakers were not broken in) , George L cables, Arion Chorus, and Vox Wah.

Bad shot of a kind of "shred" clip with my band
Different PRS Custom 24 with Fralin Pickups.. everything else was the same.

I think Santana said," Your Tone is in your face"
Hmmmmmm I always thought it was in my Wreck (laugh)
Before I ever saw footage of my favorites like BB King, Hendrix, and Santana....I always thought it was "cool" to see their facial Expressions.

In the "shred" clip....(although you can't see it)... there weren't any "tone faces" ....just the "in a zone" look:-)
Interesting fact.... a number of people at gigs made the observation that the fast stuff sounded "blurry" (less defined)...these were nights when I Didn't use my Wreck. That's what I loved about playing the Wrecks live....you could hear everything...all the notes, all the little noises, and even all the mistakes.....made me a better player......also of interest....those comment came from non -musicians

That was sooo cool!

Thanks for posting this! Invaluable hearing these "actual" clips in chasing down the "real thing" tone.

Post some more!

That's my Trainwreck Airbrake....Alessandro built and Ken tweaked it.

Unfortunately I didn't video many performances where I thought the Wreck was at it's best.
The Greg Perry and Friends clip was just a fun session....although I think the Express wasn't shining....I think everyone played well...that's what enjoyed about that clip...plus you can see the Wreck!

I think one of the best performances was opening for Little Feat in Kona Hawaii...in front of several thousand people...WOW, the Express sounded great....no attenuation...played the Express the way it was ment to be played......I had a 2x12 cab loaded with G12Hs. Paul B....really loived the sound of the amp....my girlfriend told me that they kept coming out of the dressing room behind the stage everytime I had solo.....after we talked a bit and he checked out my Express....I think he was stumped that the little head put out so much tone.

I do have some Mini disc recordings of my Express and Komet that I thought (if I remember correctly) sounded better..... I'll try to convert these...just got to find a mini disc recorder.

Wreckboy that was very cool! You are a great player and it's clear that you understand how to get the goods out of that amp.

If my Wreck history serves me correctly, you have several Wrecks including a DLM... if I've got that right, would you have any clips of that amp?

I'd also be curious if you have any Wreck or Fischer stories. I won't bug you about the details of the wreck or ask for gut shots, but I am curious about Wreck history and any cool trivia you might have for us.

respectfully,

rj
