Tag boards for an AC-30 clone?

Post by Mark »

I'm looking to build a vintage like AC-30 and I'm looking for suitable board material.

The only thing I've found is this on eBay. The seller does say this stuff is shorter than the original stuff.

Any thoughts or suggestions as to what I can use?

Thanks for your assistance.
Yours Sincerely

Thanks for your assistance RP. They have to same amount of pins and appear to be the same. I'll keep looking though.

I think the current ones all come from Radio Spares, so you might be out of luck unless you can find NOS. Should be a piece of cake compared to finding those old Wima caps

The irony is the strip was cheaper from RS than the eBay seller!

Thanks again for your assistance with my build.

According to this diagram. there are 36 tags at the top and 42 tags at the bottom row of tag strip.

[img:800:583]http://turretboard.knucklehead.dk/wp-co ... sample.png[/img]

Two strips at the top and 2.33 (3) tag strips at the bottom.

I'm a little surprised a version hasn't surfaced using turrets and garolite.

Cut them down and butt them together to length. Not easy w/o a little craft bandsaw with a fence to get a nice straight edge, but a damn fine excuse to buy a new tool!

That is a good suggestion R.P. I like it.

I had forgotten about Tube Town. We/I really need a excel sheet with links to different vendors to see what they have.

Thanks for continuing to look for these items for me, I really appreciate that! :D

Hi Mark,

You probably checked these out already, but just in case it's helpful I figured I'd toss this link your way...

Hope all is well,

That looks to be the RS tagboard, but with rather a markup.

Thanks for the RS link rp, I had assumed that they had stopped selling tagstrip etc.

I think the best practise would be to use Garolite and turrets. It's not the same as the original, but I'll bet it is quieter and better than the original.

Of course no one is making this product as there is very little demand.

That's all you can do, and it's what the Vox-specialty builders like Masco and Blind Lemon Chitlin do.

If the joint isn't stabilized by the ground bus, you can glue a popsicle stick to the backside where it'll never show.

If you only need to cut up a few, a jeweler's saw may do. You may have to sort through a stash of tagboards to find ones where all the holes are spaced right when you join them.

Some 42-position strips have been popping up on eBay lately.

I bought some of the shorter ones a while ago for a vox build. Not sure who made them but look identical. Is there any reason not to use these? Are they suitable for high voltages?
