Hiwatt preamp

Post by a_e_a »

I have a dr504 clone that I built for guitar and it sounds amazing for bass. However it is greatly underpowered. I have a reeves 225 but I yearn for the dr504 tone.

I was wondering what do I need to do to the original dr504 to build the preamp as a stand alone unit? Will it still retain that tone or is a lot of it in the power section? Is there anyone building a hiwatt based preamp?

If you check hiwatt.org , you can see that there are no specific "DR504" preamps. The Hiwatt preamp was used in all models, and changed some over time + there were some custom preamps. I'm not sure which of the preamps the Reeves uses.
