AC30 CC2 white-ish noise

Post by goldenGeek »

I just bought this CC2 for a good price knowing it has some issues. The big problem with this one seems to be some really annoying hiss from the pre amp. It sounds like white noise, but there is å hi pass (or low cut) present so it's basically very much high frequency hiss. I have tried the obvious and replaced the tubes to no avail. The hiss is most prominent on the top boost channel but also pretty annoying on the normal channel, and the noise goes away when the corresponding volume is turned down. This should lead to a conclusion that the noise happens before or right after V1. Has anyone seen/heard this before in these amps? It's a pain to work in due to PCBs in three directions so I was hoping for some pointers before I'm tearing it apart :)

Adjust VR1 then VR2. Which half of V1 is noisy?
Check R6 & R7, anode load resistors are notorious for being noisy especially in Korg amplifiers due to the quality of components used.
