Hiwatt / Laney ∆

Post by Pulsonic »

Gents

last summer i finally landed a (looks) stock '69 Laney Supergroup [SG100]. what is the overall delta between a similar era Hiwatt DR103 [100watt] ? have never played a classic '69-'72 Hiwatt so i'm just guessing. both have massive Partridge iron [this Laney is ridiculous]. does the Laney sit somewhere in grind/gain, in between a Marshall & Hiwatt ? am getting massive gain/non-distortion until about 8.7+ on the knob. at that point it is crazy loud of course but i like pants flapping =\

The brand of transformers is the only link between the two. Partridge, like all transformer manufacturers, routinely made custom transformers to spec for amp manufacturers.

Cool amp, btw. 8)
