Re: Beam Blockers?
I ended up using these http://www.lean-business.co.uk/eshop/pa ... -1388.html
they work...well
I use Tayden speakers in my Zodiac, and they sent me a pair of the diffusers for eval....I bought another set for the AC30

Don't overthink it. Just drink it.
Re: Beam Blockers?
You like these better than the foam now...hmm...solves the major grievance with the Webers. The cone + pointy thing is interesting too.

+1 Face it backwards. That's what Roy did. Works like a charm for me and gives me a more consistent sound across the whole room.
Re: Beam Blockers?
I'm a big fan of the foam donuts; the consistency of tonal balance as I move across the room is a massive improvement with them.
As they're super cheap to implement and work so well, I've not seen the need to try beam blocker type products.

I just made up an acrylic screen from 4x 1'x2' 1/4" pieces, radiused corners and polished edges, with a flexible hinge bonded on. Works for a 2 amp rig and most combos.

Love this vid of an ACL performance by Roy, with audience members sitting behind the stage, 6 feet from a Twin Reverb on 10.
Surprised they have chimed in on the tinnitus thread.

I don't understand why Dan Acroyd is playing bass for Roy?!?!

He's obviously being punished. What an ugly Precision!

Re: Beam Blockers?
Surprised nobody else mentioned the old trick Rene Martinez used to use on SRV's cabs. Using two strips of duct tape, put an X across the center of the speaker grille (directly over the dust cover) that extends at least to the edge of the speakers. Worked great in the dive bars I used to play at. May not be the best thing for cloth grille covers but my cab had wicker and it was never a problem to pull off. You could stick the duct tape to the side of the cab a few times to weaken the sticky first..

I use a guitar stand with 5 mm absorbing foam disc attached to it in front of the 1x12 Thiele EV speaker cabinet. Watch two videos how it works and how it's made. Cheers

Re: Beam Blockers?
That doughnut sounds like an interesting way of doing things, though I'm not that keen on the idea of gluing bits of foam inside the cab to the grill cloth. It might get rather messy, especially on cloth with a more open weave.Structo wrote:I followed the TGP Mitchell Foam Doughnut thread to the end.
Anyway he can tell it better than I.

Are there any other ways of keeping the foam in place?
Also, does the doughnut (or any other kind of blocker) have an effect on how or where the microphone should be placed to mic a cab?
Re: Beam Blockers?
I used a few strategically placed stitches of normal sewing thread to assist with the spray glue. But don't worry, the glue won't be messy unless you get silly with over applying it.
If you normally place a mic where the 3" centre cut out is, then I can't hear a difference, before or after donut fitment.
I often mic about halfway between centre and cone edge. The foam hardly lost anything when micing through it, but just to make sure I cut an additional 2" dia hole in the mic at the preferred position.
To assist when positioning the mics, I put a tiny dot of white paint on the outside, at the centre of each hole.
