Just finishing off building 2 TL806 cabs. Heard so much about them on the forum and after a long search, found some drivers (mid 70 's)

Every TL806 is 38 lbs of punch.
Wait until you use them outside-you will love them.

Years ago, I built my wife a TL606 cab to have a more portable bass rig. We were invited to a halloween jam, and were asked to supply a bass rig, so we brought the TL606, and a CV BG-250 head. A bass player friend chewed me out for not bringing a "real" bass rig, until after he sat in. He came over, and said "that little thing blows your pants legs"! I later sold him a speaker, and gave him the plans to build one.

The TL606 will be my next build. I have 2 early 70"s EVM15L's. EV engineering papers on this particular driver, state that it was designed for lead guitar!!

The L does stand for lead, I have one in my '81 Music Man. I used a 15B for my wife's bass cab.
If you are interested, I built some cabs using some plans I drew up for some mid cabinets back in the day. Basically, 1/2 of a TL806Q. Also makes a great guitar speaker cab with extended lows, (great with pedal steel!)

Thank you for the drawings Bill. I did however find the the EV build plans of the TL606 with cut sheet dimensions included. Very informative.If you google "EV TL606 build plans", you will find it. But thanks anyway for your info.

I've got one and I'm still not 100% sure about it in the studio( Mic'd) , I prefer the dumble style ported cab generally.

I've been using it with my Kemper with a little class D power amp.
I need to try it on bass I think.

It is a very compact design indeed.

have any of you guys who've built TL806 cabs used acoustic wadding inside as per the plans?

I haven't but I'm curious if it makes much difference as I'm about to put an order in to Tube town and I can stick this on the order.

I've done two without any insulation - sound great. One was for a pro to use with a Marshall VM - all of his mates swear it's his best tone ever.

With stuffing, it should have more even response across the spectrum and be cleaner, as stuffing keeps highs out of the port. The frequency response should extend lower also. How much it can be heard , if it can be heard, and if it sounds any better, who knows.
Not too hard to experiment though. Especially with two identical cabinets.

This thread has given me the jones to build one. I did a layout on a 5'x5' sheet of baltic birch plywood. It looks like I can get 2 cabs and have some nice leftovers. Questions:
1) Did I miss something or this doesn't require that much plywood?
2) The EVM12L is just too expensive for my taste. Is there something else that works reasonably well in the >$100 range? I'm open to used/eBay.
3) Re: #2, I don't have anything powerful enough for a 200W speaker. Most of my amps are in the 20W and under range, thought I have a JTM45 (EL34) clone and a tweed bassman clone (6L6). Is there some magic to the 200W speaker? I'm concerned I won't drive it hard enough.
4) It seems like the unloaded weight will be about 35 pounds. Does that seem right? This is more than I expected somehow.
5) If I do this, I'll probably sell the 2nd one, naked, baffle cut for a 12". Any opinions what a fair price is? I'll guess shipping at around $35 due to weight and size.

Look at the Eminence Delta Pro 12A as an affordable alternative to the EVM12L.
