Your G12-65 is a large dust cap speaker, the Gold is a small dust cap speaker. They handle the upper mids and treble differently, which will make the EQ harder to get where you want it.

Earlier today a client contacted me about this exact problem he had, although it was a G12-65 and the Creamback Alnico.

When I explained the dust cap differences, he then told me he had another cab with two small dust cap speakers (forget which ones, sorry) and said it sounded great.

So I think what Alessandro is talking about is the difference in the dust caps and how they handle the signal.

I've tested large and small dust caps together here, and found they are hard to EQ properly for your target tone because of this difference in the upper mids and treble registers.

As far as 97 vs 100db speakers, that can be a good 15-25% difference in volume depending no the amp circuit and your EQ settings, so I don't recommend having a 3db difference. 1-2db is Ok, 3db is borderline or beyond.

Bottom line: you can mix different db speakers, but mixing large and small dust cap speakers causes more problems than you would probably want to deal with.

Hope this helps.
