how to do front panel like this......

Post by norburybrook »

As I've now started to make my own cabinets I was wondering how to a front panel like this:

I have a 1/8 router bit to route a channel for the piping, but how is the grill cloth attached so you can pull it tight the other end? if it were two pieces of tolex then obviously they'd just drop into the slot as there's no tension but with a grill...????

thanks Mark, so a Vox would be the same then and all front panels that use grill and a top piece are in fact two pieces.

In the top photo, what's holding the top and bottom together? it looks like it's hinged :D

That white wide piping is holding it together and of course it all gets screwed to the speaker baffle board. I've seen some with narrow wood cleats screwed to both panels on the back.
