size of internal frame in TL 806

Post by arjepsen »

Hey.
I'm thinking about building a TL 806 cabinet, since I got an old evm12l lying around.
I'm looking over the build plans, but can't find the specific sizes (particularly width) of the internal frame.
Am I missing something in those plans?

Regards
Anders

I believe the typical plans call for 3/4" plywood. If you are in Europe, I guess that mean 19mm. You can derive the inside dimensions. Is it really worth the effort? If I were to build it with 1/2" plywood, I'd compensate but building to a smaller outside dimension.

It doesn't say the size of those cleats going around the inside of the box, other than it would be 3/4". It says to not to overlap item 7 width which is 3 1/2" (8.9). It looks a lot narrower than 2"

#4 baffle cleats are 3/4" x 3/4"

#6 is 2 1/2"
#7 is 3 1/2"

Front view shows inside dimention is 13" (33) x 16 1/4" (41.3)

Side view shows inside dimention is 10 1/2" (26.7) x 16 1/4" (41.3)

If you don't have your own table saw to rip 3/4" square cleats, instead get some "5/4" which is really 1x1" at places like Home Despot or Load's. I've used 'em a lot, doesn't hurt to have a little extra support and you're not going to lose much internal volume. Plus they're a bit less likely to split. Doesn't hurt to drill pilot holes + relief holes for screw heads in any case, if you're using screws for construction. And if that's the case may I recommend German made SPAX deep thread screws, you can get 'em at the Despot. Way better than cheap Chinese shallow thread screws  made of cheezy "steel."

I marked the sheet when I built some back in the day, maybe it'll help?

As I recall, the frame parts not marked are 1"X 3", (actually 3/4" x 2.5"
