EVM Serial Number

Post by Bombacaototal »

Dear TAG friends,

I have two EVM OEM speakers, a 12S and a 12L. I have been trying to find out the date in which both were made via the serial number.

I understand that 812 is 8ohms, 12”. The 4 digits after are the model, 9460 being 12L and 0247 being 12S

The age is probably the last 3 digits, 734 and 806.

Is it fair to assume that 734 is 34th week of 1987 and 806 is the 6th week of 1988?

That's a tough one. You have to guess at the decade. Are there any other identifying numbers on the cone or on the rim? Any other hints?

These numbers are beyond what I'm able to comprehend. I think we need a speaker expert.
A short rant: I can't understand why anyone who is making anything would arrive at a 3 digit date code with a single digit for the year -- that it would be OK. It makes no sense at all. I wonder what they were thinking? Useful life was less than 10 years?
