This is probably an asinine question, but please don't beat me!
Has anyone ever mixed speakers in a cabinet with different sizes? I was thinking of building a cabinet with a 12 in and a 10 in speaker. The idea would be that the two speakers would have slightly different frequency responses and therefore, perhaps make the sound more well-rounded?
I mean, they do it with home audio speakers, why not guitar amps?
I built one with a 10" and two 8" [mini 1960A] during my tiny amp / cab phase. It sounded good but wasn't anything to keep intact. The one EVM12L now in that cab sounds much better to my ears. I'll also weigh in on mixing speakers in a cab - did it in 10" and 12", 2x12 & 4x12 - keeping the sensitivity close - and have gone away from that as it didn't sound leaps and bounds better than a matched set of speakers.
Ok, thanks for the input! Wasn't sure if it's really make that much of a difference. I think just going with the 2z12 and let it blast would just fine!
I built an 18-watt Marshall-style build with a G12M65 Creamback and a 10-inch Gold and it sounds good. I've since been experimenting with Tone Tubby hempcone speakers and, despite the premium, the Red alnico mixed with their 40/40 GB-style speaker is a match made in heaven. Both available in 10 or 12 inch.
