Any ideas on this g12t-75?

Post by Seb C »

Hi all,

I bought an amp - a Smarvo (No, I’d never heard of it either) - but for £21 I couldn’t pass it up.

It’s a 2x12 combo, and the speakers are marked “g12t-75” so I immediately thought Celestion, but they don’t look like Celestion baskets. They sound just fine, but I was just wondering if anyone had seen such a thing before? Probably some kind of Chinese clone(ish).

Thanks!

Maybe if you clean up the basket with a damp rag you'll find some manufacturer's code on the rim. I think you already know that G12T-75 16 is a model number, 12", 75W, 16Ω, G for guitar? No clue on the T. Without a doubt, the price was right!

The frame angle and depth conforms to Celestion but the stamping in the frames do not conform to any I can remember seeing.

I will look through my spares and yank a couple covers as I go.

Look for date codes inked on frame.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Just an observation but ive never liked crimp or push on connectors on speakers especially if the amp is a valve job
