Gut shot's of "Ingrid"

Post by Chris G »

Hi All,
I found this link on another site and thought I would post it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Train-Wreck-Exp ... 2ebe5cc7cd

I am finding I'm a little nostalgic today, thinking of the past, I can't help but think of the endless hours that I poured into trying to figure out if the schematic and layout I had for the Express was correct......I'm reminded of the bad information that was put out by those in the "know" in an attempt to keep the original circuit safe from cloning......Then of course "Francesca" showed up and the rest was history........

Anyway enjoy...
Thanks
Chris

I would like to talk about the chassis (remember what Ken said about wiring and chassis). Very thin, with the sixth side that gives some structural stiffness, some specific rubber dampeners carefully placed (take a look at signs near rubber strips), and another black rubber cilynder to dampen vibrations and add stability (like in a 4x12" cabinet).

Actually the rubber cylinders are wooden dowels! Some say broomstick wood even. Not sure about that, but definately painted wood held with a little silicone. Did the job just fine.

Thank you Glen!
I've seen that your amps share the same thin chassis I think it's part of every Express. Do you have also rubber strip dampeners? Placed the same way?

Interesting things to see in the gut shots. This one has an input resistor (V1,pin7), I wonder what the value is, (10k, 15k or maybe 33k?) . Also probably a 820ohms in V1,pin2 and the parallel to C8, ceramic 0.0022 a la "Trudy", now I see why this amp sounds so fat.

Dan Boul from 65 amps recorded a video playing this amp that you guys can see now on youtube

What does the ceramic .0022 cap that is paralleled to C8 change in the circuit?

The presence control is the type with the 4.&K resistor and 25K pot too.

What is the Trudy information?

Is there a circuit diagram floating around about the Trudy amp?

Perhaps a new circuit diagram needs to be drawn with the variations?
Yours Sincerely

I like that ceramic cap 0.0022uf in parallel to C8. Makes the amp sound bigger. I did that to my express 2 days ago plus the 820ohm resistor in V1a(pin2) and also I used a 33k in V1b(pin7).
I will leave it like this for a while and play it more.

I think the 820 ohm resistor will make no difference to the tone of this stage. Though it will help against RF nasties.

The 33K will effect the highs a little bit, though I doubt I'd hear any difference between a 33K and no resistor (I will have to try this one day.)

The choice of 0.0022uF to 0.0044uF cap is the biggest change, I seem to remember liking a bright amp with bass heavy speakers. I got a full range and the bass still sounded tight.

I dare say speaker, guitars and personal taste will determine the best sized cap.
Yours Sincerely
