trainwreck shielded wire not grounded on the layout

Post by mehfuzhoss »

Hello,

i found this layout in ax84 2 watt tw. please look at the layout and let me know if i should ground the wire. the layout shows no grounding!

The v5 (left most tube) pin 2 is connected to vR4 (Volume) with a shielded wire but not grounded. should i leave it as it is? also i can use a single wire for this connection?

thank you in advance.

You should always ground shielded wire somewhere, otherwise the shield doesn't do anything. The grounding means any noise the shield picks up is sent immediately to ground, and not allowed into the signal wire/signal path.

Edit: You can always not use shielded wire. It just reduces the noise reduction of having one. It's really worth it to me in noise sensitive areas or signal runs that cover a large distance.

On a Trainwreck Express, that lead is a standard piece of hookup wire, not shielded. You can choose to use shielded there, should you want or need to.
