Suede Dumbles
I have to confess, I love the look of these heads finished in suede. I've seen a few pics over the ears. Some were done by third parties (like the pic). Does anyone know if Dumble ever sold any of these as original equipment?
I'm on a quest to get a head cab with that look. Is the covering suede upholstery fabric or the real thing? Where might one get the metal trim pieces?

I know Steve (67Plexi) has done some suede and of course Jelle has.
What I remember was Steve saying it gets dirty real easy and doesn't take long for it to look bad.

Re: Suede Dumbles
Alcantara (synthetic suede) would probably be better since it's designed to be used for car seats, etc., so would probably handle the wear better than genuine suede.
And Scotchguard spray would definitely help.

These two Dumbles did not look 'bad' to me. The front one is from about 1977, IIRC. It's not brand new looking by any stretch of the imagination. I would say that it gained character.

Tony - is that just aluminum stock then polished up to look nice?talbany wrote:Brian

Jelle/Tom - those heads look like they've had more than a few beer spilled on them. I guess that answer the question of HAD selling suede as original equipment.

The fake stuff doesn't work because the contact cement soaks through it.paulster wrote:Alcantara (synthetic suede) would probably be better since it's designed to be used for car seats, etc., so would probably handle the wear better than genuine suede.

Re: Suede Dumbles
Best to use 3M 80 with Faux Suede. Only spray the cabinet, not the material. Wait till it is tacky and stick away.
I have done several faux suede and they have turned out ok.

The best adhesive I've found is DAP® Landau Top & Trim Adhesive Contact Cement - It has a high heat resistance so if you live in a high temp climate you may want to consider it..

Re: Suede Dumbles
Wilsonart H20 is a great water based contact cement that works great with both tolex and suede. It is heat and water resistant and you can buy it at home depot. I have used it on a bunch of suede applications

Re: Suede Dumbles
I've gotten VOX grille and italian cowhide suede from eBay. The grill cloth came from a music store in the midwest, IIRC. The royal blue suede from a clothing manufactuer in Italy.T Wilcox wrote:where can you getthe nice VOX style grill stuff.
