Tube Depot's "The Button" trafo

Post by boldaslove6789 »

Anybody ever used one of these for a D-lator? I was considering making a D-lator in an extra small enclosure for a friend and I found this:

You would need to use the voltage doubler circuit but what I find odd is that in the text they rate the HT at 3ma but in the PDF it says 5ma.

Is that enough for a single 12ax7?

Thanks for pointing that trafo out. It looks like a useable and small alternative. I would tend to believe the 5mA value since that is what is listed in the 'official' drawing with the designer's name on it.

The dropping string would have to be adjusted to achieve the voltages listed in the layout/schematic that was posted by Tony.

Is 5ma enough?

That's what's in their 12AX7 based Button guitar pedal, so I would presume it is enough. IIRC, a 12AX7 draws about 1.5-2mA from the HV at around 200V on the plates, so it should do the trick.

Dang I wish I had seen those before I built my D'lator.
I ended up using a fender reverb tranny that was too big for a 1U box....
Oh well, some day when I'm rich I'll redo it.

Check out Allen Amp's TP2X. more robust and about the same size. I've never built a d-lator before but could someone verify that the voltages will be in the ball park?
Thanks

I've looked at that one(tube depot) before, I thought was just not enough using a FW bridge and far too much for a doubler.
I spec'd' up a small open frame PT from Heyboer the other week and I should see them soon. If anyone is interested I can check on my price for maybe 6 of them.

1.5625" tall, 140V @ 30mA, 6.3V @ 600mA. It's heavy enough to handle a 12AT7 and 12AX7 if one wanted to do a two tube version.

TM is that a encased PT or open frame?

Would you mount it on the back of the 1U rack cab or inside?

Personally I would rather have the PT mounted inside.

I can't believe how much they get for the 1U rack chassis.
But I don't care for the big box I built mine in.

Tom it's an open frame. I'm thinking it should look very similar to the one at tube depot. The intent is to be mounted inside. I want to do a half width rack unit.

Hey this layout should look familiar, thanks to Bluesfenderman and yourself. I wanted to try that series /parallel setup and I figured this could just drop into a smaller portable amp top enclosure. I orignally worked up a voltage doubler layout, then I remembered that I have one of those fender reverb transformers.

Allen's TP2X is perfect. Note his rating is 260V @10mA, 260*1.41 = 368.
I have one here: I measure 286VAC unloaded from 122VAC primary.

Nice!

Is that your cathode bypass cap there? The fat grey cap?

Remember that it should be 47uF. Or at least 25uf.
