My Second Attempt

Post by Aaron »

My second attempt at an ODS. I built my first about 7 years ago and loved it so I decided I would rebuild it but do it properly. After years and years of picking up parts every now and then, I finally finished.

Circuit based on #124
Blackface Twin Transformers, Pots and Caps
2 x 1k 5W resistors instead of a choke (All I had)
Presence control is with the 20k pot wiring
2 x 100uf and 4 x 16uf for filtering
The overdrive trigger pot measures 65k to ground

The footswitch

Sweet!

What speakers are you using and how many are in the cab?

The speaker is just an Eminence Gamma. Sounds nice so I dont plan on changing it yet.

So that is one of those chassis from Thailand right?

I don't see any mounting holes, how is it mounted to the cab?

I have an amp with one of those chassy's. I just built some wood rails for it to slide on, then the back holds it all in place.....Given a tight tolerance of construction.

His latest batch is much nicer than the earlier versions...no mispelling! ;-)

Got the chassis from Thailand off ebay.
There is mounting holes but they are at the bottom of the chassis, so I did exactly what Briane did with the timber rails.
Built the box and covered it myself, first time I'd covered and amp.
Sounds great so far, I changed the caps on the OD stage to 2.2uf. One thing that stands out the most are the tone controls. Compared to the standard TMB tonestack you can actually hear changes over the whole turn.
I dont know what the technical difference between the two presence circuits are, but the 20k pot/56k res sounds great.
Only problem is now I'm gonne have to build more.
I think a SSS is this weekends job!

 Big problem! And I know the feeling. I am trying to kick the habit right now and am having a very hard time. Those pesky extra parts lying around the workshop are calling to me to turn them into something........

I am thinking I may need an intervention.......
