6L6s for 183/102

Post by vibratoking »

I am looking for a quad of 6L6s for my 183/102 clone. I have looked at HiTest and KCA so far. $405 for a matched quad of NOS Sylvanias at HiTest and $450 for the same thing from KCA. That's well beyond what I am willing to spend.

1 - Anyone have any they are interested if parting with?

2- I asked Gregg at HiTest how he matches them. He said he matches them for current and that transconductance matching is meaningless. I don't agree. KCA matches them for both on a Maximatcher.

3 - A Maximatcher costs $600. More than a matched quad, but not by much. I am wondering if it wouldn't be smarter to buy a Maximatcher to test the 20 or so 'vintage' 6L6s that I have laying around. It would also allow me to buy/scavenge singles and match them up myself.

What do you guys think?

Man that is crazy $ for the tubes. Couldn't you install individual bias pots for each socket and use the tubes you have?
