That's a bit high.

Maybe John Mayer will buy it.

I spoke with the owner of Maverick a while back. You are right $100K is crazy for an amp....

But how about this one..

Dumblator #1 (Henry Kaiser was the original owner) sold for $25K about a year ago.

I think the Japanese buying frenzy is over...
I used to see booths 3 or 4 tables long and 4 tables deep
at the Dallas guitar show with all the guitars and items they bought.

None were for sale every one of them going back to Japan...

I was told they break them all down saving parts in bags label them
then claim they were parts guitars not complete to avoid high customs fees and Taxes..

$99,500 is alot of coins.

I think the frenzy for old strats and les pauls has died..
I see alot less for sale now and everything is dropping price wise.

With the economy as it is I doubt many are buying 500,000 dollar les pauls
but the rich get richer and the poor stay poor.

If I scratched the winning lotto number tomorrow Id not buy that amp for 100 grand.

Not when so many are making great sounding clones for about 95 grand less.

How about the D cab for 25,0000 though ?

"Austerity is out as French luxury goods group beats analyst forecasts with 13% sales increase in six months to June 2011.

LVMH, the world's largest luxury goods group, on Tuesday reported waiting lists for its Louis Vuitton handbags and a thirst for its finest Krug and Dom Perignon champagnes – illustrating that austerity chic is so last season.

The French group beat analyst forecasts with a 13% increase in sales to €10.3bn (£9.1bn) in the six months to 30 June. Its chief executive, Bernard Arnault, said the bumper sales figures for the first six months of the year were "remarkable" as they came on top of an equally strong performance a year ago. Profits from continuing operations at the group, which makes €1,500 Louis Vuitton handbags and Givenchy perfume, jumped 22% to €2.2bn."

Cant speak for Europe but I can speak as an eyewitness to how the frenzy has stopped.

At the larger guitar shows its not the same the Japanese are not buying
everything in sight not like they used too.

I was at Rays music in Austin one day and a Japanese man was there
a local player I know ran home and got 23 princeton reverb amps all black face all in near mint condition...

The Japanese man bought all of them cash I had a 59 strat but it was refinished and he was not interested in that in the least at any amount but he did buy 23 Princetons on the spot cash.

He was a major dealer from Tokyo and used to meet with someone out of San Antonio to go across Texas and hit all the hock shops buying them out too before the guitar shows.

That dried up along time ago and I stopped seeing the guy come through.
Everyone knew when the Japanese were in town it was time to sell..
Not the case anymore... at least here from what Ive seen..

The guy had a long bed king cab truck full of vintage amps and guitars
all tweed cases and vintage gibson only.

None of it was refinished nor anything newer then late 60s at that.

But he would take all of that to the show where the real haul was being taken in at.

Alot of our history went to Japan because they paid top dollar.

Perhaps your Right though Max and things are all just peachy...

Maybe we are on the road back to good things I hope so but I also
go by what I am seeing so I am a tad cynical.

Save the economy buy American

Here is hoping sir Paul wants one...
otherwise I dont see too many lefties that can afford that..

What are people thinking these days?
25 grand for a 4 12 cab
100 grand for an ods
125 for a SSS ?

500 grand for a left handed 175 ?

They are smoking hi test weed if they think they will ever see that amount.

Man, I wonder how he came up with that price.

Maybe his wife is fed up and told him to sell a few to thin the herd.

He puts any ridiculous price on it so he can tell his wife, sorry honey, it didn't sell.

I think he should round that off to 1 million dollars...
Might as well....

I was told Linda McCartney paid 60k for Pauls gold top.
Not quite sure on the Burst but supposedly the same person found both.
I was told Linda bought them for Paul...

Now if those were round 60 then 500k is ubsurd for a hollow body
the solid body archtops from 58-60 fetch the most $ Id say korina vs or explorers coming in a close second.....

There is more involved too the hollow body though construction wise and
the guys building les pauls were not considered GOOD Enough yet to build the nicer hollow bodies....I read those guys doing the fancy l5s ect and byrdlands or switchmasters were the top builders and the guys doing solid body setneck archtops were not considered seasoned enough to even be in that group.

Ironically the bursts fetch more cash...
Some Master~builders are kicking the lids over that right now.

pfft solid bodies set necks HOW MUCH ?
