The grain I can see on the sides and bottom looks like Luan.

The baffle doesn't But it could just be Rotary cut vs Sliced.

The Luan I've seen is Straight grained and open pored. With a reddish pink color.

I think Luan is almost a generic term nowdays including several different species.

I can contact my supplier and see if they have any.

I think everyone, and I mean everyone, considers it junk. Maybe HAD is trying to throw us off his path and the secret to the cabs is the 24 baffle and 24 back panel screws...

Hard to say he could have been trying to through everyone off.Either way I don't think you are going to find the lumber core anymore.

HAD Said Redwood makes great cabs I would Imagine It to very Boomy and not very Sturdy and I sure wouldn't consider a difficult wood to work with.Looks to me like western cedar would be very similar. But then again what the hell do I know?

How about some Sitka Spruce for Lively cab? :D

The type of lumber core HAD used is not available anymore... if some one tells otherwise they are full of beans.
They have not made that type of for 30+ years...

This Luan stuff is useless and nothing like it either.

Sorry to be a pisser but I once went down this road before and it leads to no where.

Bag End uses "Solid poplar plywood construction".
I've build a few cabs with poplar ply, because it is light, affordable, and Bag End uses it.
This probably hasn't anything to do with anything regarding the Dumble cab, but poplar is light like the old "mahogany" ply, without interstices.
Perhaps the new Luan (which is crap).

Hmm, western cedar might be interesting. Easy to work with, and it smells great. :D

Cherry wood for baffles I know we made some of those about 23 years ago and they had a pardon the pun sweet sound too them.

What will the cabs be made of stained sealed wood no tolex or suede ?
If so then amazing grained wood is justified.

If your going to cover it then it is mute cosmetically why pay 80 dollars a sheet for something that would be covered up..

Baffles are a different story though...

I just purchased the 412 that was for sale in Canada. Bought it from Colin James who used the cab with a SSS as he toured the country opening for SRV and Steve Winwood. He later sold the SSS to Kirk Hammet and kept the cab in storage.
It's on it's way now and should have it in about a week. 250lbs with 4 EV's...yikes!

Congratulations! Great purchase.

I'd love to see how the baffles are mounted. I bet it sounds unreal
